Commissioner Marc Sarnoff recently addressed the Rotary Club of Coconut Grove. After bringing the Rotarians up-to-date on recent and future developments in Coconut Grove, Commissioner Sarnoff announced that his office is providing funds for 10 middle-school and 10 high-school students to go to Washington D.C. for a week to participate in a program called Close Up Washington.
The students will have an opportunity to meet other youngsters from across the country, learn about the federal government, and visit monuments and the Smithsonian Museum. The goal of Close Up Washington is to help young people develop the skills and attitudes necessary to become informed and engaged citizens. While Commissioner Sarnoff's office is arranging for 20 students to take part in Up Close Washington, his goal is to double that number, and he is seeking community support.
The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove meets every Thursday at 12:30 pm at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club. For more information, contact Phil Everingham, pbemsdd@hotmail.com.
