Maybe we can use it for the Grove trolley?

Just like it should have been, the Coral Gables trolley depot is going back to Coral Gables after being built in Coconut Grove.

Scheming developer Hentry Torres has a plan for the new terminal on Le Jeune Road near Merrick Park, where it should have always been, but they didn't want to burden the new condo dwellers or Epicure Market with what they thought they could dump in the Grove's Village West neighborhood.

I'm not sure if it's a spiteful act or not, but the current trolley depot in the Grove would be used for three years while the new depot in Coral Gables is being built. Three years to build a square box to house trolleys?

Here's the Herald story explaining the rest.

As for trolleys, have you signed the petition to add our own trolley to Coconut Grove? We have lots of well-known people to sign. Hope you can be one of them.

  1. Why on earth should the grove have to deal with this for three years? Doesn't a garage currently exist in the gables? This should not be accepted by the neighborhood.

  2. Yes it does seem odd. The new station was done in 6 months or so. Why did the locals have to wait 3 years?

Seems like the locals have the developer by the you know what and they should not cave in to a sweetheart deal. Make him come to a deal - how about retrofitting the "garage" for housing?
What will happen with the structure? Who owns it? The City of Coral Gables?
