In commemoration of spring – the season of re-growth and renewal, Doubletree Hotels across America has turned National Arbor Day – the country’s oldest environmental holiday – into a two-month celebration. Volunteers from the Doubletree Hotel Coconut Grove are teaching more than 700 students they’ve adopted at Silver Bluff Elementary School, how they can show they care about the environment, by planting hundreds of crape myrtle tree seedlings in recyclable milk cartons to re-plant in their neighborhoods later this spring. In addition to beautifying the community, students are learning about the positive effects of the environmental 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) by turning collected trash into artistic treasures. The event is Thursday, April 20 from 8:30 am to 10:30 am
Silver Bluff Elementary School is located at 2609 SW 25th Avenue.
