Where would you send a tourist in the Grove?

One of those Facebook pages where people ask for recommendations, one guy asked for suggestions on what he can do in Coconut Grove. He is new to the area and was wondering what he could do her for a day or a few hours or whatever. I think he was a sailor.

I wracked my brain and wondered, what could I suggest for the guy to do? A few people suggested he visit The Barnacle and felt that it would be interesting since the guy was a sailor, but no one seemed to come up with anything else. People ended up sending him to Brickell.

Almost daily I see people ask Louis, the Grove Ambassador for the entrance to the Cheesecake Factory or where the art galleries are. I cringe when that happens.

CocoWalk says they will be opening in the summer, so that will be big improvement for the tourists.

Vizcaya, Barnacle, Kampong in that order. Playhouse if it was restored to its former glory and not just a retail mall with a small theatre.

jobie steppe, Start em at Coco Walk and say: The Grove use to be a laid back hippie village, pubs, musicians, guys & gals marijuana smoking community. Send them down Grand to observe the vacant lots, apartments & housing of what's left of the community who worked and slaved to create Miami out of swamp and much. Tell em to turn left at Douglas, just past the haunted above ground grave yard, then left past the church and down Charles Street and the checker players to get a view of what's left after gentrification. Then down to the Coconut Grove Playhouse and across the street to the Barnacle, then down Main to Peacock Park, the pier to start getting a look at one of the biggest marina's in the United States, pass the Seminole Boat Ramp and along Biscayne Bay where pirates usually had to anchor to find some sweet water. Then Miami City Hall and head North across Bayshore to see some million dollar condos, across Tiger tail to view some old Grove housing and wild peacocks and over to Flanagan's to get some damn good food, then back to Coco Walk. I've been here since 1965 and I do this about once every two years. Tell em about real CHANGE.
