It's year 10 for Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is celebrating it's 10th year. This year it is November 30. This yearly day is the anti-Black Friday. It's a day when you are asked to spend money and buy gifts in local mom and pop, family-run businesses. In 2011, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution in support of the day.

Small Business Saturday was created by American Express. Credit is given to shoppers who participate and businesses who participate receive marketing help.

As a consumer, you’re a key part in helping small businesses thrive. By shopping or dining at small businesses in your community, you’re showing support for the businesses in your neighborhood and in the community you call your own.

The majority of the money spent at local businesses stays local.
You might not realize it, but every time you take a yoga class at your neighborhood spot or buy a gift from the local artist, you're shopping small and making a difference.

In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community. So when you Shop Small on Small Business Saturday—and all year long—it can help add up to a big impact.

Small Business Saturday of course, falls between Black Friday and Cyber Monday, as Monday is reserved for online sales, it is suggested that the Small Business Saturday sales take place at brick and mortar stores.

Coconut Grove is made for an event like this, as most of the village consists of one-of-a-kind small businesses.
