Are Revel e-scooters coming to Coconut Grove?

I'm in New York City right now and there are so many Citibikes all over the city, they sit in stands in so many locations and unlike we have a few in a rack, there are literally dozens in racks throughout the city.

Another thing that is prevalent are scooters of every type and in the last year they have had Moped sharing. I bring this up because Miami may be getting rentable electric mopeds, too, or e-scooters as they are called.

The Revel company has spoken with the Miami Parking Authority about an arrangement and there is talk about place up to 750 scooters around the city including Coconut Grove. I know there are many people who complain daily about the scooters, I wonder how the moped will go over.

Three companies sent proposals to the city and Revel won out.

Riders would pay a $19 application fee and then pay $1 per person plus .25 per minute after that while riding - and .10 per minute while parked.

The e-scooters seem to be a bit more dangerous to ride than the current scooters we have now. One girl was sent to the hospital on Miami Beach with a traumatic brain injury after colliding with a car. Another person in California fractures her scull while on the e-scooter, but I suppose you could say that people are hit by cars all the time, too.

Washington, DC has 400 e-scooters as of this past summer, the Washington Post says, "Skeptics are right that these streets were built for cars, but achieving a sustainable urban future will require rethinking how we get around. That will mean adjusting in a host of ways, including building more protected bike lanes and considering congestion pricing. It will also mean welcoming scooters, mopeds and more to the streets, safely and smartly but ambitiously, too."
