Reimagining mobility in Coconut Grove
"The idea is to bring people together to consider how to make the village (both commercial and residential areas) a place where bikes, cars, pedestrians, public transit and alternative modes of transportation all safely co-exist. As you know, mobility touches on so many aspects of quality of life within the village," says David Villano, local activist.
The event is cosponsored by the Coconut Grove Village Council, Bike Coconut Grove, and Grove 2030. The event will be led by Victor Dover of Dover Kohl & Partners (a nationally renowned design firm that has done a lot of mobility planning work) and by Joanna Lombard of the University of Miami School of Architecture.
An array of community stakeholders will explore the goal of connecting all Coconut Grove residents and visitors through a flexible, connected network that accommodates walking, cycling and other public and private transit options. Urban planning professionals will outline the anticipated challenges facing Coconut Grove and will present case studies that illustrate tools for local consideration. Through a series of directed exercises, participants will discuss and propose solutions to the current and pending mobility challenges facing our village.
Onsite parking is limited; attendees are asked to carpool, bike or use other alternative modes of transportation.
The event is free, but advance registration is required and space is limited. Anyone interested can email info@grove2030.org for more information and to find out how to register.
Ransom is at 3575 Main Highway.
