The 'Runners Highway' in Coconut Grove
After seeing a trend in your stories lately I was prompted to share an AWESOME quality of The Grove.
Coconut Grove is blessed with the amazing “Runners Highway” of South Bayshore. No matter what time of day you’ll find runners traveling up and down the sidewalks. The running culture is deep all over the city and the sense of community continues to build one runner at a time. Different run groups have formed all over Miami but the values are all the same: enjoy the sport of running and do it together with someone.
Do you know what is the best part of running on our “Runners Highway”?... the encouragement!!! When you pass by a someone there is a hello, a nod - some sort a gesture of “I know what you’re feeling and you can keep going”. Many share my own experience that their accomplishments in their running echo into other aspects of their lives for an overall better life.
On Saturday mornings you can see sooo many groups of runners meeting up in Coconut Grove. There is no club fee, no mandatory time to enjoy this community feel - grab your running shoes and hit the pavement - see it for yourself!!
This is just a friendly reminder that Coconut Grove is still an awesome place to live, work and play (and run)!
New to running and not sure where to start? Coconut Grove has it’s own unofficial Run Community that meets every Wednesday Night at 7pm and every Saturday Morning a 7am next to the benches by A.C.’s Icees in Kennedy Park.
Live in a different part of Miami?..... check out out these amazing groups!!! Pick out any night of the week and there are people gathering together!
Baptist Health has a group in just about every section of the city on all different nights. Website: runclubnetwork.com

Lucy, that's a great story, and if you not you should be elected the official spokesperson for Runners. It was 20 years before I realized I was addicted to endorphins: run, run, run -more, more, more. Felt great and kept me healthy & strong. Thanks Jobie Steppe
The Grove is great for all kinds of recreation. That's indisputable. What Lucy doesn't mention, however, is that this stretch of South Bayshore Drive, also the location of Commodore Trail, has languished for decades without being maintained or upgraded. For too much of its length, the Commodore Trail is a narrow, unprotected shoulder, and at times a narrow sidewalk, next to a dangerous, high-speed roadway. Friends of the Commodore Trail is working to change that and make this neglected jewel of Coconut Grove safe for all users.
