Improving the Freebee service
It looks like the whole Grove will still be serviced, thanks to the BID who helps fund the service along with advertising. And keep in mind that the BID could only be covering the BID area, which is about 18 blocks in the Center Grove where most of the businesses are, but the whole Grove is still covered, so you can still go to Milam's or Mercy Hospital and places like that, even Regatta Park, which are all out of the BID area.
"The BID board voted to request that Freebee update the technology in the app so that a ride must originate or end with a business. Freebee is still working on the technology," said Abigael Mahony, acting BID executive director.
What will be changed is the house to house pick up and delivery. That is where the slowdowns have been in the past. Rather than use the Freebee for which it is intended - to bring residents to and from local businesses, there were many people, many bored kids, in fact, that would use the service to go to and from friends' houses. This will stop.
The new algorithm will not allow for this so if you would like to take Freebee from home to the Center Grove or Milam's or something like that, your're good. If you would like to go to and from school or to and from a friend's house, you'll have to use an Uber or bus or your own car!
This will make the Freebee service a much better and efficient service.
