End of an era
Monday morning they sold off their fixtures.
Here is Noel Garcia, from our red light district - Grove Ink, New Age Body Piercing and Lucky 14 Smoke Shop, with a few mannequins he purchased.
The "new" CocoWalk is scheduled to open in the Spring.
While CocoWalk tries to make itself into something it's not, Coral Gables just announced a new Target is coming in 2020. They will take the place where Office Max is now at on Ponce de Leon Blvd. I remember when it was a Grand Union, I used to shop there years ago. That Target would have been perfect at CocoWalk.

Unfortunately, this is why after 9 years, I started staying in Brickell. The Grove is sadly, not the Grove anymore. Scary.
I hope “That Target would have been perfect at Cocowalk” was sarcasm. I don’t see how The Gap helps the Grove identity in any way - good riddance.
So Sad!!!
The movie theater is closing? I thought that was part of the future Cocowalk development. If the theater goes, we go. Green River, tell me it ain't so.
Picture perfect picture, a naked body hauled off from GAP by Mr. Garcia, from our red light district body piercing, smoke shop vape addicting devices. The personification of "The Rise & Fall of Civilizations" right here in our NEW GROVE!
Why has Noel never applied for Mayor or any other political role concerning Coconut Grove?
I would certainly vote.
Miami is growing. No big deal. People ask me, "Don't you miss the artist village days?". I say yes, definitely. Several very good broke artists and a few galleries were the central focus of what went on around here. It was cool and very interesting. But, things change. It could be worse.
Loosing the Gap is terrible. The Grove is becoming Brickell (concrete jungle) south. These soulless developers are ruining the heart of the Grove. If Grovites wanted to live in Brickell, then we would move there. I am so saddened that the Grove is loosing its identity.
How did THE GAP positively contribute to the Grove’s identity???
What was wrong with The Gap? sometimes you need a t shirt and it's easier than driving to Dadeland. one of the problems with the Grove was the lack of basic use stores for those of us that just need everyday items. I would think a scaled down Target that fits the space would be great.
