Saturday racing clinic at Grove Sailing Club

It may be a bit late for this week,  but if you read this early enough, you can join in. Every Saturday, the Coconut Grove Sailing Club is hosting a Saturday Racing Clinic. This is for experienced an inexperienced boaters, everyone is welcome. Evenly matched Harbor 20 sailboats are used.

The clinic is designed to help sharpen your sailing skills and racing is the best way to do this because it gives you instant feedback. "If you have no experience, no worries, we will assign you to a boat with experienced sailors who will show you the ropes," says Gary Fretz, creator of the clinic.

Check in is between 11:00 and 11:20 am upstairs on the upper eastern-most deck.
Skippers Meeting is 11:30 to 11:45 am, where they describe the course, starting sequence, weather, tips and boat assignments. The launch will then take you to your boat which are out on moorings.

Sailing short races is from 3 to 5 pm.
And the return to moorings is around 2:00 to 2:15 pm.

There is a debriefing from 2:15 to 2:30 pm with awards, hots dogs and beer ($10 extra charge) and exaggerated sea stories.

The clinic is $60. There are limited spots so arrive early.

If you are not a Sailing Club member, there is metered parking out front (if you arrive early) or up the street and at the public parking garage next to Hotel Arya.

The Club is at 2990 S. Bayshore Drive.

I've enjoyed sailing with this group a few times and HIGHLY recommend it.

No experience is necessary, just show up and spend a great time on the water in a beautiful part of the world.

I did it with a group of friends from Internations.org but if you show up alone you will make friends in no time.

Have you got something better going on this Saturday morning?

:)
