Why Freebee is not working

A reader sent this in, he doesn't want his named used, but I think it's quite interesting:

Let me enlighten you on why Freebee is not working in the Grove. 1st of all if you do not tip you will be at the bottom of the list to be picked up. The people that are benefiting from Freebee are the Schools, Trains, Grocery Stores. If Freebee would eliminate taking people to the Grocery stores who have big parking lots with lots of parking that would free up a unit. If Freebee would quit taking Nannys from Frantz Road to La Pizza School and back because the parent it to lazy to make lunch in the morning, and the request in the after noon to pick up Nanny again and then go and pick up child and then back. Its a total round trip of almost 6 miles and a trip time of almost 35 to 40 minutes and a battery usage of about 20 percent.

This is just like the rider that gets picked up at Laselle High on Bayshore and taking him to Bonita Drive in Coral Gables, he does not even live in Coconut Grove. Coconut Grove can be done with 3 vehicles if they would quit from being taxis for everyone and doing what the service was meant for. You have 14 year old girls riding at 10 pm at night, just wait until one of them gets assaulted and the BID gets sued.

Freebee is afraid to go to the BID, their stand is lets sell them more vehicles and that's more money we make. Instead of them fixing what is broke lets keep expanding and selling units. Just like in Pinecrest, they started out with only 2 units knowing that it is an 8 unit zone. The owners are young and like I said they need to fix what is broken. let me know if you want more. I can explain more on why it is not working right in the Grove.

I agree with the poster that the Freebee is taking longer then usual to arrive when you call them and that kids under a certain age shouldn't be allowed to use it without a parent but who am I to say that how other people use the Freebee isn't as important as mine. My 82 year old mother-in-law is one of the people that takes it to Milans because she doesn't drive. Who are you to say that this shouldn't be allowed. I'm interested to know what important business the poster has that he is calling out other people. Please keep in mind, THIS IS A FREE SERVICE THAT YOU DON'T PAY FOR. Stop thinking that you are entitled.

Thank you, anonymous. You make sensible posts. And wonderful to hear about your mother-in-law going out for groceries! I hope to be so capable if/when I arrive at 82. I don't like driving so I'm all about freebee to the grocery store. I'm even more about freebee to and, especially, from happy hour. I look forward to the day when there are far fewer cars on the road. I hope the number of scooters stays low as well. My experience with Freebee has been a very positive one. The drivers give me advice about their peak times so I try to avoid them just like I try to avoid rush hour when driving. It's not rocket science. I hope #Brickell gets some freebee service soon.

The author of this letter has a rather entitled point of view. Who is he to say where, when and who should be able to use Freebee? If you want to get from point A to point B within a certain amount of time, use a paid service like Uber or Lyft. Also, I'd like to know the basis for his comment that "if you do not tip you will be at the bottom of the list to be picked up."

I live in center grove. I have tried to use the Freebee about 3-4 times in the past year, to go from my house to Plymouth.
Usually around 5 or 6 in the evening.
They have never showed up

Of course, leave it to a privileged few who are abusing the system. Freebee need rules and they have to stick with them. Older folks should be able to go to the market on a Freebee but this nanny stuff with the kids, I'm appalled! I had no idea and what will happen next is that they will have to discontinue the service because of those entitled few taking advantage. Coral Gables, are you kidding me?! Of course tipping is necessary so whomever goes to the bottom of that list needs to be there.

It's just good old reliable human nature. How many people across our great nation drive Cadillac's to collect welfare or get free turkeys for Thanksgiving & Christmas. Farmers paid not to grow crops, range land owners with minimal cattle who qualify for taxpayer subsidies to produce beef products, women who have babies to collect welfare - - - the list of dead beats total billions of dollars annually. Not to mention so much plastic everywhere as to be found in every cell of every life form examined, including every brain of every baby born today. Let em have the freebee, I'll walk. Human nature translates this is how it is.

4:30-8 p.m. is a high volume time for Freebee. Try requesting upwards of 20 minutes in advance and make sure you’re not in a hurry. The service isn’t for necessity as it is not always effective... simply because there are only 3 vehicles to service the entire grove
