Special Playhouse meeting is Wednesday
Congresswoman Frederica Wilson requested a deferral from the last meeting, which was April 25, so that she could study the project. She would like to be part of the conversation, which she called "a matter of extreme importance."
Ms. Wilson feels that Miami's Bahamian roots are disappearing and that many early Bahamian settlers to Miami worked on building the playhouse, also she feels that the fact that the building is on Charles Avenue, Coconut Grove's original historic and Bahamian Street, that the structure should be saved totally. Not just a portion, which are the plans now.
The City of Miami Historic Preservation Board, the State Historic Review Board and the National Parks Service unanimously designated the entire Playhouse as being historically significant and any demolition of any part of this building would violate seven standards of the Secretary of Interior's Standards and Guidelines for Historic Preservation.
Wednesday's meeting is at City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive.

Amen, Frederica Wilson, she should run for the Senate at the minimum.
