Fighting public corruption

Miami has been named one of the most corrupt cities nationwide.  Miami isn't number one on the list, it's number 4, number one is Chicago, according to the University of Illinois who recently did the study called the “Corruption in Chicago and Illinois” report.

The university's department of police science looked at federal corruption from 1976 to 2017.

Chicago was followed by Los Angeles and New York and then Miami at number four.

Michael Kresti, board member of the Florida Aviation Academy, the first high school program in Florida dedicated to educating students for the aerospace industry, will address the Rotary Club of Coconut Grove on May 9. He will give a presentation on STAND-UP about public corruption in Miami and efforts to fight it. Kresti has been recognized by government officials for his assistance in the anti-corruption efforts of the federal government including planning and participating in covert operations. One of his sting operations was the first in history to lead to the arrests of two sitting mayors in the same operation. He has been recognized for his work by the U.S. Senate and the United Nations.

A native of New York, Kresti was raised in Houston and Philadelphia and attended Southern Methodist University and pursued an MBA at Villanova University and at The Wharton School of Business.

The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove meets every Thursday at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, 2990 South Bayshore Drive at 12:30 pm. The cost of the meeting is $25 with lunch or $10 without lunch. Open to the public.
