Did you know that South Florida is not
allowed to landfill sewage sludge? The Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department
produces over 55 tons of sewage sludge daily; it is trucked to north Florida at
a cost of $60 a ton.
Robin Parker, the chairman and CEO of
Chemergy will speak to the Rotary Club of Coconut Grove on April 11,
outlining how his company’s biowaste-to-hydrogen technology can benefit
Miami-Dade County directly. Earlier work by Chemergy demonstrated that 100kg of
renewable hydrogen fuel can be recovered from one ton of sewage sludge. In
addition, the technology presented can process other biowaste including
municipal solid waste, hurricane debris and plastics.
The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove meets
every Thursday at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club, 2990 South Bayshore Drive at
12:30 pm. The cost of the meeting is $25 with lunch or $10 without lunch. Open to the public.
