Bike To School Day in the Grove is May 10
Bike Coconut Grove and the Coconut Grove Village Council are working with three schools in Coconut Grove to organize Bike/Walk to School Day the morning of Friday, May 10. Coconut Grove Elementary and Tucker Elementary are in and possibly St. Stephen’s. The event lasts about an hour, from about 7:30 to 8:30 am.
"We’ll be organizing 'bike trains' and 'walking school buses,' and for at least one school we’ll do traffic counts at the school before and during the event. For Walk to School Day last October, we worked with Coconut Grove Elementary, and we saw a nearly 20% decline in cars at the school that morning, said Hank Sanchez-Resnik, Exec. Director of Bike Coconut Grove.
He is helping coordinate this effort with Courtney Omega of the Village Council and parents and administrators from the schools.
Bike to School Day is a national event taking place on Wednesday, May 8. The Grove's planning group decided to celebrate it on Friday, May 10, because of testing at the schools during the week beginning May 5.
