I'm missing our street artists

You know what? I'm missing Xenz and James Brazil. They were working on that mural at Grand and Matilda for so long that they themselves were part of the scenery and the community. They stopped and cheerfully talked with everyone, they were proud of their work and happy to talk about it.

They are supposed to come back and work on another project here in the Grove, but that section of town is a bit quiet now. I really liked them.

They sort of reminded me of the time Eileen Seitz, below, was painting the info booths around town. There was always someone around visiting with her as she worked, it added a bit of liveliness to the streets.

There has been talk of adding artists to the streets, you know, on a daily basis, painting and mingling with everyone who walks by. This has been talked about for so many years, but it will add a lot of enjoyment and life to the streets, you know, one or two a few days a week - local color. Literally.

A federal lawsuit/complaint WHITE v. CITY OF SPARKS Case No 05-15582. Feb. 16, 2007.-- August 29, 2007 ruled in favor of an artist who claimed the right to sell his original works of art on any public place, sidewalks and public parks. I displayed my art on the 13' x 50' easement right of way in front of my home in the Grove. The CITY of Miami placed a lien of $506,000.00, on our home. I sued CITY in federal court & prevailed. Artist friendly to the Grove could create a group to create & display their original works of art throughout the Grove as long as they do not, by law, take up more than 33% of the sidewalk. If CITY were to ticket them CITY would be compelled by law to pay each artist ticketed about $15,000.00. Artist do not have to ask permission or obtain a permit. I continue to display my art. Very few artist, City Attorney's & law enforcement are aware of this ruling. Many artist are laid back and don't want to engage the powers that be or be confronted by the police. I got a %06,000.00 lien on my home and prevailed in Federal Court using this ruling. Frankly it was a pain in the butt. The publicity & notoriety was very, very extensive and didn't earn me one penny. What the heck, it was still an educational adventure The reward was I continue to display my art and talk with passersby. Jobie
