Big Playhouse meeting coming up before HEP Board

There's another meeting regarding the Coconut Grove Playhouse on Tuesday, February 5, this is an important one. The county wishes to demolish the Playhouse and build from scratch, keeping the "wings" section up front. This meeting is before the Historic Environmental Preservation Board (HEP), who will decide on the fate of the Playhouse.

The Playhouse is on the National Historic Register and from past negotiations, it's clear that the HEP Board never met a developer they didn't like. To be honest, they need to drop "Historic" and "Preservation" from their name because the board does not give a damn about historic preservation. It's all about money in Miami.

Arquitectonica has been barreling through the Grove these past couple of years, destroying the ambiance of the village. They along with the County have big plans for that area, including working with the City on a garage, hotel and other big structures.

Jordan Dobrow, interior architect, has some interesting ideas on how to save the playhouse from demolition. She says, "Central to the concept is a configurable space that converts the playhouse from a full size playhouse into a dinner theater, restaurant, small entertainment venue, and other uses." Check out what she has to say here, there's also a video to watch.

This item is on the agenda at 3 pm,, item number 8.

The meeting is at City Hall, 3500 Pan American Drive.

That should wake up the voters to remove everyone who appointed HEP board members including Dade mayor Carlos Gimenez who lives in stone ages.

Gimenez says rail transport is backward, he is planning flying saucers as rapid transport. New York Subway, London Tube, San Francisco BART Miami is going to have flying donkeys!

I thought the courts already approved the County's plan. How can HEP deviate from that judicial determination? I am asking earnestly: what are we still fighting over that the Courts have not already finally decided? Is this blog entry just fanning the flames or is there something left to be done in the neverending opposition to progress?

The opposition to progress are against third world mentalities who simply stop, turn on their emergency blinking lights and park - - - - for hours or all night blocking traffic or forcing baby carriages & folks who walk or run into the street. Or come to work @ 7:00 A.M. 7 days weekly, block rain water drains with blowers blowing leaves into the streets and dust into the air and on our homes and cars, and into our lungs. Traffic blocks 17th 22'd, 27th, 32'd and 37th every morning and evening and speed down our narrow roads, Property owners, walkers, runners coward to the easement right of ways for safety. AND many property owners simply do not get it that they are responsible to maintain their easement right of ways - - - many use them to place their debris/junk/gargage on. Frankly the majority/entire culture that has evolved sucks. Jobie Steppe
