MPA parking rates raised; but first, holiday savings

The City Commission agreed to raise parking rates at Thursday's  commission meeting. Street parking in the City of Miami along with city owned garages, will be raised on January 1. Until then, the yearly parking special will be in effect starting Monday, December 17.

New parking rates will vary depending on the neighborhood, parking in Coconut Grove will likely be $1.75 per hour, Wynwood would be $3.25 per hour, but residents will only pay $1.40 per hour or less if they use the Pay By Phone app, which will prove their residency.

As for the holiday savings - Miami Parking Authority (MPA) has announced the return of its popular “Holiday Parking Courtesy Citation Program."

Created over a decade ago, the program will be in effect every day, 24 hours a day, from Monday, December 17, 2018 at 12:01 am through January 1, 2019 at 11:59 pm.

The program applies to all on-street parking spaces managed by MPA. All customers who purchase parking at a single-space meter, Pay by Plate master meter, or via the Pay-by-Phone app, will be eligible. Once their parking session has expired, they will receive a special Holiday Courtesy Citation explaining that they have been granted up to one free hour of parking beyond their expiration time.

“We are very pleased to bring back the holiday courtesy citation program and in the true spirit of the season, support and say thank you to our loyal customers, merchants and visitors to Miami,” said Alejandra Argudin, Chief Operations Officers.“This is also a good opportunity to remind our customers to lock your vehicles and secure your valuables during this time as well as throughout the year.”

Additionally, customers who live within the boundaries of the city of Miami and are registered with the Customer Service department receive a 20 percent discount when they park and use the PaybyPhone free app. Furthermore, customers who park in Miami do not incur a payment surcharge when they use PayByPhone.

Approximately four years ago, the MPA became the first and only parking agency in Florida to absorb the mobile payment technology convenience fee, thus passing along the extra savings to its customers.
