Pics of the day

This is Commodore Ralph Munroe in 1883-84. That's an alligator and crocodile he shot at the waters's edge.

This crocodile is in the American Museum of Natural History in NYC. The plaque under it says the croc is the largest ever found in Florida. It measure 14'7". Crocs occur only in southern Florida where they live in salt or brackish water along the coast.

In the background is the Bay View House hotel, which later became the Peacock Inn, which was located in today's Peacock Park.

The Barnacle, Commodore Munroe's house would have been to the left in this photo, as you walked along the shore. 


This photo below are two photos of the Peacock Inn. The hotel was sold in 1902 and knocked down in 1926.

Some ask what does a Coconut Grove house look like and the answer is in the photos. A house built close to the nature and climate.
