MPA wants a rate hike for parking
Rates will rise from $1.75 per hour for street parking to $3.00. Rates would rise for decal parking and also parking lots owned run by the MPA. There is a new censor parking system, where you can get a ticket without a meter maid being near your car. And the non-stop towing and booting brings plenty of revenue in to the city already, as well as the parking waiver
The fact that they sold the Oak Street Garage to developers should be reason enough not to allow them to raise the rates. At first I was not bothered by the sale, where many people where, I was foolish enough to believe what I was told to my face, that nothing would change other than ownership, but of course that was a lie, now we see the garage is an office building and we lost valuable parking here in the Grove so that a developer could, what else, over-develop.
The $16 million that was made on the sale of the garage should more than compensate the MPA and the City Commission should decline their request for a rate increase.

The final nails in the coffin of downtown Coconut Grove...
This is happening throughout The City of Miami so please stop turning it into a Coconut Grove v. The World issue. And I fail to see how the renovation to the Oak Ave Parking Garage -- which is still going to be a parking garage with added offices above the existing garage -- gets thrown into this story unless you feel you need to bash a developer in every story you post.
Oh sorry, my mistake, I guess all the office workers will park in the street and leave the office garage open for the public. Sorry. How foolish of me.
I know you don't believe what you say or you wouldn't be "anonymous."
parking for what? nothing interesting is left to do there.
Exactly Grapevine. Did you ever try to park in the Mayfair Garage after 9AM on a weekday? Almost impossible to find a space.
Insane. Not even Coral Gables charges that much.
MPArturo wants another raise?
It's EXTREMELY complicated and VERY difficult to operate a CITY and basic civilization(s) VERY, VERY COSTLY. Not understanding life's realities I was just one block from an office depot on S. Beach, pulled into a garage due to stalemate traffic, returned in less than 15 minutes and my bill was $85.00, EIGHTYFIVE DOLLARS! And no one to talk to, totally automated.
Now, back to this blog story. Parking space is like a speak easy of old, and this golden goose is going to help finance pet projects as in line their pockets. But, this is business as usual, not to worry. Jobie Steppe
There's more ways than one to skin a cat. At those rates I would rather take Lyft or Uber than pay the crooks the new rates. More business for local drivers and less for the MPA CROOKS!!
Miami Parking Authority (MPA) and its boss Art Noriega have far too much power. Bear in mind Art Noriega has a $300,000 per year pay and benefit package. Money generated by harassing residents and tourists. Art is proposing to increase fees 20% to 300%.
Art Noreiga needs to be removed.
