Regarding the scooters
Anyway, here are Al's comments, which I asked him to email me, they are also under the stories where he originally comment on them:
Tom,
These electric scooters are illegal, as per Florida Statute 316.003(77), and contrary to whoever told you that the company "work(s) closely with the city," has misled you.
In fact there is a meeting being held today at City Hall about these electric scooters, because the police consider them a real hazard, on top of the fact that they are illegal.
I wrote a story detailing all of this yesterday, and I would urge you and your readers to read it, and the linkage to the Florida Highway Patrol Fact Sheet that includes these scooters.
You're aware that the photo of the guy on the scooter represents an illegal use of this scooter on a public streets, aren't you?

They are less hazardous than the bicycle riders who ignore the rules of the road.
1) Who is Al Crespo?
2) Why should we care what he says?
Let me guess...another self-described activist trying to tell everyone how else to live their lives???
AL CREPO STOPP POSTING ON THE GRAPEVINE. YOU ARE ALWAYS NEGATIVE AND NO FUN TO READ. IT IS IS A FUN BLOG AND YOU ARE NOT FUN.
TOM GET RID AL CRESPO. IDIOT
Al Crespo is a blogger journalist and everyone can exercise their First Amendment to the United States Constitution in America though in Miami it may have been different.
Please don’t take these scooters away :( I’m a little poor grovite that doesn’t drive a Benz or a BMW. These scooters help me go around the grove for work and groceries.
what is it about illegal that you do not understand?
Exactly. There are rules we have to live by. Developers and people buying these white boxes do not seem to realize this. Someone needs to educate them so they follow these rules. Code enforcement must be very busy.
Al takes the time to research and mostly gets it right - - - - all for readers edification to do with what they want. I believe Tom indicated the scoters were $1.00 per hour and users could obtain credits for charging the batteries. If so, use the scoter for 1 hr., charge batteries for 5 yrs., and I think you'd get a free hr... They are anything but safe, as Al & other indicated. Some renters are simply stupid risking their lives for the thrill. If I were young I'd certainly ride one frequently as they do look like adventurous fun. And it's really tough for youth to find things to do what with all this asphalt, cement, rules, laws, codes & regulations, Jesus there are rectangular regulation signs, what 10/20/30 every gosh darn block. I'm glad I was around in the fifties and sixties before absurd law and order took over. DO U OWN A JOBIE? jobie steppe
Electric scooters look cool, but they should not be allowed to travel on the road. It is not a vehicle that meets safety regulations.
