Beautifying houses on Rebuilding Day

Over 200 volunteers came out Saturday to help on Coconut Grove Rebuilding Day. They joined Commissioner Ken Russell and his staff along with Mayor Francis Suarez to help restore nine homes in Village West.

Thanks to $300,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding designated by Commissioner Ken Russell and over $200,000 donated by The Home Depot Foundation, Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade helped make critical repairs to homes.

That's Commissioner Russell finishing up a great paint job.

Repairs included accessible bathroom modifications, kitchen renovations, roof replacements, plumbing and electrical, energy efficiency upgrades, exterior painting and landscaping. It was a perfect day, a beautiful day of sunshine after all the rain we had lately. The group started early (7 am) and worked into the afternoon.

Protecting and rehabilitating the West Grove community has been a priority for Commissioner Ken Russell from the beginning of his tenure as District 2 Commissioner.

In 2017, Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade completed 57 owner occupied rebuilds, 4 small businesses, and 3 community spaces. RTMD’s average client is 72 years old, has a combined household income of $21,131, and has lived in their home for 25 years or more.
