You can't win
Tom,
Was reading yesterday's article on towing on The Vine and wanted to send you this photo.
My scooter was booted last Friday night after happy hour at the Sandbar. Parked in the dirt at the old Fudruckers parking lot. Got booted. Been parking there for 7 years just about every Friday. I drive scooter to save gas, be energy efficient, easy to park, doesn't take up a parking space, but my scooter gets treated like a car anyway.
Travel all over Europe and scooters are everywhere, by necessity, but in Miami? Go screw yourself and your scooter.
Courtesy of Advanced Booting Systems: Notice the threat (see warning image below) that I was 'under surveillance' how friendly, charming and Grove-like. If I was a business owner I'd be furious that this is what customers can now expect when coming to the Grove. With the rents they pay I don't know why they would bother with this place. Rows of empty storefronts, valets taking up spaces, constant construction and now booting and towing. Jeez!
Long time Grover who is totally disgusted. As for your article, keep up the great work. These are real quality of life issues.

There was a guy in Europe I believe who would go around with a gas powered metal saw and would liberate vehicles from the evil claws of the boot. If only the Grove had such a superhero... Would also be hilarious if a vigilante booted the vehicle(s) the booting company uses.
All joking aside, this incident is ridiculous and shameful. I miss the Grove and stories like this one make me sad.
That company must be really proud: Notice the name of the company is the smallest text on the WARNING sticker.
What happened to our neighborhood?
Highway robbery! Aren't we supposed to encourage the use of mopeds, bicycles and the like? The greatest travesty is that this happened in the Grove, once-upon-a-time, but no more, the bastion of tolerance, good vibes and free spirits.
The sad and bad part is that is city property...not owned by Florentine Plaza..I’ve seen other motorcycles get parking tickets in that space, never booted, so which is it private or public property???? . so asinine to boot because you can, with no reason other than extorting cash from the patrons. The fu#ing scooter isn’t even in a spot let alone the actual parking lot!!!
I believe this is probably an illegal boot under the law, my thinking goes like this. The MPA provides a parking space that those who park in must pay a fee. Private parking at a business can also charge a fee. You can park a bicycle free on the sidewalk where CITY provides some steel framing device. Plus there's no signage stating you can't lock your bike to say, some street light pole. Likewise I've never seen a sign stating you can't park some scooter in some location like the one being described. Tow companies are fighting for your dollars and some mentality saw an opportunity (Goose Golden Egg) type mentality like that sign in the Grove reading Unloading, while at the same time the sign read Pay to Park and if you paid you got towed. Many folks know that if I suggest you sue the bastards I mean it. However, the Grape got that sign problem corrected, but if you sued the bastards you'd probably win based on the law, but what do you really win, nothing. This is disgusting and it's also just plain greedy human nature and in the end the scooter owner would gain nothing having to spend $350.00 to sue the bastards. It's not just the Grove greed is worldwide and is normal human and animal behavior. Try to relax, Jobie Steppe
Under Florida state statute 316.1995, you cannot drive a motorized vehicle of any kind up onto a sidewalk, the grassy area around a sidewalk, or a bike path. Only foot-powered bikes are allowed. ... Finally, if parking your bike along a street, you should always park close to the curb (of the edge of a curbless street).
Either way, scooters don't take up much room and it sucks big time that this scooter was booted on an empty lot even if it was grassy.
