Taking control of quality of life
Palmetto Bay feared a new charter school would add too much traffic to the area, so the town bought the land that the school was interested in and they have plans to turn it into a community center and park.
They feared that 1000 more students in the area would wreak havoc with traffic and quality of life.
"A charter school would have completely and literally destroyed that area," said Palmetto Bay councilman David Singer. "All these people who don't live here would come, not pay taxes, increase traffic and use our services. There were no benefits at all, so we had to do something."
If only the powers that be thought that way around here.
