Where is all the parking impact fee money going?

Sidewalks were widened here on Grand Avenue, taking away four parking spaces.

Someone brought up a good question on our Facebook page recently. Where is the money going from all the waiver fees that the restaurants pay the city? I wrote about it years ago.

Here is the story from April 2009.

The parking is all disappearing in the Grove, one garage was sold to a developer, on street parking has disappeared due to ADA compliance, sewer improvements and valet services. Where are the impact fees going?

Since the story was written in 2009, nine years ago, not one new parking garage or even parking space on the street has been added. Parking is disappearing.

There was a waiver increase in 2013 which people were not happy about.

Currently, there is a huge surface parking lot next to the playhouse, there is the Cocowalk Parking Garage, the parking pgarage next to the Peacock Garden, the parking lot next to Greenstreet and the Sonesta; as well as, the new valet service, trolley, and Freebee. The problem is you don't want to pay to park in those lots and would prefer to complain about problems without presenting any solutions (as usual).

Also, the new Playhouse will have a parking garage, which will greatly increase the number of spots that the current surface parking lot can hold.

We need the Parking Fairy! Not to put in quarters, but to tap his wand when I need a convenient parking space. Oh how I miss those days.

Good suggestions on where to park but that isn't the question.

I believe the question was where the impact fee money is going and how it is being used to help parking. Wasn't the Oak Street garage that the city has sold built with the pool of money that started being collected over 20 years ago? I seem to remember they used some to build the garage. I could be mistaken.

So where is the money being collected going now?

Most people have no idea/concept how much it cost to facilitate humanity; countries, states, counties, municipalities, villages, transportation; bicycles, cars, trucks, RR's, airports airplanes, waterways, highways, bridges, armies, navies, prisons/jails, sewer & drainage, food, farms, grocery stores, red lights/traffic control, healthcare, industries, steel, aluminum, brass, nuclear/oil/coal fired electrical production, dams, fish industries, science, education, babies (lots of babies), insurance, banks, research & development, wars, lets not for get warssssssssssssssssssss. 30 years ago a woman needed a stick of butter (120 calories), and drove to a local supermarket 4 miles away in a gas guzzling 400 HP heavy metal Buick using 9,000 BTU's of gas, returned home and turned on her gas stove & used 1100 BTU's to cook her family a great meal. Where does the money go? Jobie Steppe

It’s in the parking trust fund held by the BID. Earmarked for parking and pedestrian improvements. Also annual revenues for sidewalk rentals stay in the Grove to support the BIDs extra security and maintenance. Anyone with a basic knowledge of the Grove would know that. Or would you rather engage in conspiracy theories.
