'We are capable of using a parking meter'

I am a resident of Coconut Grove, pay very high city of Miami taxes, and am completely against all of these Valet Parking stands that have started showing up around the Grove.  We are capable of using a parking machine or a parking meter, we do not need valet at $8 a pop.  It is ridiculous and don’t know what the city is gaining by doing this.  We have lost a lot of parking spots over the years for no reason.  Why is the lot of the post office not being used anymore after hours?  Is that for valet also?  We have a right to have reasonable parking in our neighborhood.

Thank you

Many cities use familiar old style parking meters redesigned to accept credit cards, greenbacks and coins, paybyphone numbers can be posted right there next to the space. No more hunting for the right number, no more hunting for the evasive payment printer machine, no more question of do I leave the receipt on the dash or is the tag number sufficient. The current systwm SUCKS. Maybe the new valets can help with instructions to find the signs and machines and how to operate them. Hey MPA what you are job is not rocket science and parking shouldn't be either.

I don't write a lot about this topic but the reality is that we don't have access to parking spaces. That is, this is not necessarily an inventory problem but the lack of accessibility creates the shortage. On street parking is limited and parking lots are spread around. Urban areas without a centralized parking system solves this with strategic valet parking or golf cart style trolleys that drive you around or better signage and indications/signaling for parking.

I enjoy walking around Coconut Grove. Walking to the park garage or meter allows me to run in friends and neighbors. It also gives me a change to see the new businesses. I will not be using valet and neither should you.

We pay for roads, sidewalks and other public infrastructure thru taxes. It takes municipal planners, engineers and sometimes community involvement to get the shovels moving . Then along comes a private enterprise that cuts a deal with the city and all the factors that were considered in the initial planning are invalidated . Public property becomes essentially private. The parking spaces we paid for now belong to a restaurant that arrived long after the work was done but now has arranged with the city to charge the folks that live here an absurd premium to park in THEIR now private parking space even if that local resident only needs to pick up the laundry or buy a toothbrush. That level of arrogance needs be recognized . That total disregard for the community needs to be addressed ,first at the government level and secondly as a financial incentive to the perpetuators to correct their behavior. I will not use valet parking in the Grove and I will not frequent any restaurant that has valet parking.

Your collective comments are a common denominator to reality, not my opinion. Are you folks serious? You have no rights or opinion that counts. There are so many, many humans about, here, there, everywhere. Space in urban centers is frankly dear. Walk, bicycle, Uber, drive, bus, metro rail or levitate - things are a changing right before our very eyes. Relax, move ahead, enjoy, drink a coffee, say hello to friends and strangers, enjoy the bay, boats, blue skies, shops, dogs, kids, baby carriages , humanity and COCONUT GROVE because things are a changing. Arguing over parking spaces....doesn't get much more miami than this. There are way more important things to worry about people. Anyways everyone should be driving less and using alternative modes of transportation, its more sustainable. There should actually be LESS parking to incentivize use of sustainable transit and to make our streets more pedestrian friendly!
