Mountainfilm festival coming to The Kampong

Still from The Rugby Boys of Memphis film.

The annual Mountainfilm on Tour | Miami, is coming to The Kampong on November 17-18. Mountainfilm is a documentary film festival established 37 years ago in Telluride, Colorado, which now travels year-round to over 100 locations on five continents.

Florida-based firm [STRANG] Architecture is the major sponsor of the festival, this is the third year that they have brought the tour to Miami.

The films on these two night have a strong focus on screening contemporary short films that address the way we as humans interact with the world around us. The ideas explored range from pressing environmental issues, like in The Seed Vault: Preserving Crop Diversity, Forever, to social relationships in The Rugby Boys Of Memphis. There are exceptional international entries from Bangladesh, Scotland, and Finland, with the latter country offering one of the most unique films, Johanna Under The Ice (2016), which is about the exceptional world record holder in free diving under ice.

There is also one feature film, Chasing Coral (2016), where director Jeff Orlowski set out to document the current crisis in the ocean ecosystems and the impact of climate change.

Daniel Burdeno and Kayla Ripple from the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo, will be on hand for a Q & A after the film.

Mountainfilm is a festival dedicated to harnessing the power of film to inspire audiences to create a better world. Their touring program is designed to celebrate the indomitable human spirit, and aims to motivate individuals and communities to  advance solutions for a livable world.

There is a strong focus on education, and the sessions are designed to foster critical thinking, especially in school-aged children, who are encouraged to attend.

Max Strang personally spearheaded the founding of the Miami edition of the festival in 2015, and serves as the Chairman of MountainfilmMIA, Incorporated.

Tickets are $45 for each night's showing of films, a combination of both days is $75.00. The movies start at 7 pm each night. You may purchase tickets here.
