Exec Director of Casa Valentina is Rotary speaker

The guest speaker at this Thursday's Coconut Grove Rotary lunchon(November 2) is Wanda Finnie, Executive Director of Casa Valentina.

The statistics are daunting for former foster youth and at-risk youth and Wanda will speak about this. Young people who are at-risk or who leave foster care at age 18 without being adopted or permanently reunited with their families are more likely to be homeless than be in school.

Casa Valentina was established in 2006 by a group of concerned women who wanted to find a way to address the immense challenges faced by young women who were "at-risk" or "age out" of foster care at 18 years old without being adopted or reunited with their families. Casa Valentina teaches life skill and independent living to young individuals so they will succeed in creating brighter futures.

Wanda became the Executive Director of Casa Valentina in 2015. She has dedicated her career to working for the best interest of children, as an attorney, executive leader, educator, mentor and manager.

She and several residents will talk about the services and programs that Casa Valentina provides them. The Rotary Club of Coconut Grove will also be presenting a grant to Casa Valentina.

Please join the luncheon, you don't have to be a Rotary member. RSVP to coconutgroverotaryclub@gmail.com.

They meet at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club (2990 South Bayshore Drive) at 12:15 pm. The cost for lunch is $25.
