Construction worker escapes falling bank building
Saturday morning as I drove up Florida Avenue toward Mary Street, I looked at the remnants of the old Coconut Grove Bank building. It was just one slab of wall standing there, something that looked like it was out of a bombed out building in World War II. It was a thick wall of window openings.
Well, it's gone now. It collapsed Saturday afternoon about 3:30 pm. What sounded like an explosion in the Center Grove was the wall falling. Only it wasn't planned. And there was a construction worker below on a piece of heavy machinery who may have just received minor injuries.
An ambulance arrived and attended to him.
