Code enforcement, BID cleanup and Main Highway

An interesting concept that Commissioner Ken Russell brought up at the BID meeting on Tuesday was the renovation of Main Highway. He is working with the county on an idea that will protect the trees. In other words, the large trees may not have to be removed when the sidewalks are done and the roots are dealt with.

The city is working on ideas for the road and the county will give the go-ahead if it makes sense to them and does not impede traffic.

As for clean-up, the BID spent $28,000 to have the Center Grove cleaned up after Hurricane Irma. Unlike the City of Miami, there are no long delays in getting things like this done and they managed to clean up the center of the village a week after the hurricane came through.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, the Coconut Grove Playhouse appeal has been differed to another date. The meeting was to be Thursday morning where the City Commission would hear the case, but Comm. Russell felt that not enough residents knew about it, so he would like to give it more time so that people can become aware of the meeting.

One encouraging sign is that Code Enforcement is now available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they are adding more inspectors during weekdays. But we have to be the eyes and ears for them, they aren't wandering around looking for code breakers. It's up to us to call them or use the 311 app.  You can also call in a code violation to 305-416-2087.
