Center Grove is a horrible mess

The Center of the Grove is closed for business. Or almost. If you look at the video above or these photos below, you can see that the very center of our village, the three/four corners where McFarlane, Main Highway and Grand Avenue meet is dead. Luckily all the new restaurants  around the village are open and thriving.

Three businesses are closed and the Gap is behind this fence at CocoWalk, which is soon to be scaffolding. Across the street, Masa Taqueria is gone and that whole building is empty, Kit & Ace is long gone on the other corner and the old bank/Coldwell Banker building is being renovated for Starbucks, but as of now, it is boarded up. And now there is another closed business - Maui Nix, here they are taking down the sign. I believe the surf shop will move into their space until January.

Things are going to only get worse. There are others ready to buy and kick out tenants so that storefronts sit empty. Why? Who knows.

This whole building is empty. Some sort of renovation is supposed to happen, but nothing started yet.
Kit & Ace has been gone for months, they finally took their merchandise and papered up the windows.
The Gap, soon to be scaffolding for CocoWalk renovations.
The former Coldwell Banker building, being renovated for Starbucks to move across the street, but it's boarded up for now while it's under renovation. Starbucks may move across the street in January.

We moved here a few months ago from NYC, and we are so disappointed to see all the shuttered businesses. We love that we are able to walk to restaurants, shops, the bank, etc. But en route to our destinations, it's disheartening to see all the emptiness. We really like this neighborhood. Hopefully this is just a transition...

This problem is a non issue compared to the need for more green areas especially near the water to protect the residential areas in case of any water related catastrophe. Of course -- more green areas throughout the Grove should also be a priority.

Very sad to watch the further destruction of Coconut Gr
ove.
All that made it so unique and appealing is long faded.

Landlords are pricing out businesses with exorbitant rent. But give it a few months...everything will be back to old with a new look!
