I got a letter from a developer

I received an email from a developer, regarding the story on the NCD's. He says he is a conscientious guy, who builds houses in the Grove and that he loves Coconut Grove and lives here. I get many letters from developers, some nice, some rude.

He says, "I'd like to think that I'm not a white box developer, and instead we are crafting what we think are works of art, and are putting many times more mature landscaping on our sites than are there presently." He goes on to say these houses are "personal resorts."

The guy wants to collaborate with the Grove groups on crafting these houses personal resorts.

This is all well and good. I sent him a list of the organizations  - Grove 2030, the Coconut Grove Village Council, the Coconut Grove Civic Club, the Coconut Grove Treeman Trust, Grove Watch Group, Coconut Grove Village West Homeowners Association, among others.

He returned an email asking how he could get in touch with these groups. Which surprised me because I would assume he would be on top of that since his very livelihood is at stake.

But I guess late is better than never.

But to his request about collaborating over the architectural merit of his houses, I think the bottom line is this: one plat of land = one house. One house that fits into the neighborhood, not so much the style, but why put a three or four story house next to a single story house on either side. Is this the thing to do? And the trees . . . keep your hands off the trees.

Its up to our P&Z Department to respect and protect our zoning codes. They should not have to be remind by our residents and we should not have to go into battle for each demolition, new Big White Box or each tree removal. We could better protect the spirit of our neighborhoods if we had a professional Design Board to review these cases. That is the what has protected Coral Gables and other communities that really care about their past and future.

This developer has come up with "Personal Resorts" as a euphemism for that of "Big White Box" that resemble a medical office. What other euphemism's are there to describe the Grove and what developers plan for it?
"Letting In More Light" for "Cutting Down Trees".
"P.I. Attorney Revenue Stream" for "Broken Sidewalk Pavers".
"Free Range Tasty Turkeys" for "Grove Peacocks".

I think I have one of his "personal resorts" next to my 2 bedroom 1 bath bungalow. Unfortunately there are 2 on 1 lot and it is a nightmare.
