Lionfish Bash raises money to cure paralysis

The Woody Foundation is presenting the 7th annual Lionfish Bash and it's this great fundraising and eco-saving event is being held in Coconut Grove on June 23 and 24.

The Bash is a win-win-win situation - they help eliminate the invasive Indo-Pacific lionfish, they raise money for a great cause and they have a great time doing it! The funds raised from the Lionfish Bash are donated to Jackson Rehabilitation Hospital and directly benefit the spinal cord injury community and others who are paralyzed.

You can get involved if you like, here's how: Put in a boat and attend the captain's meeting, tourney, dinner and post party - tickets here. The captain's meeting is Friday, June 23 at Atchana's East/West Kitchen at the Mutiny Hotel. Lionfish hunting will begin the next morning with weigh-in between 3 and 5 pm that afternoon and dinner at 7 pm, both events at Coral Reef Yacht Club.

If you don't dive, but just would like to be part of the party, attend the dinner and post party - tickets here.

Businesses can send an in-kind donation. - Email lucy@woodyfoundation.org

There are so many ways to get involved - one of the biggest is to spread awareness. One of The Woody Foundation initiatives is to send back packs with a collection of assistive devices across the country to people living with paralysis. These devices help  people overcome their limited hand functioning and become a more independent person in their daily life. Be a part of changing someone's life on a one-to-one level. Every year there are approximately 12,000 new cases of spinal cord injuries - let's help make their lives a little easier.

The Woody Foundation, founded in 2011, raises funds and works to increase awareness for those with paralysis. In January of that year, the Foundation's namesake, James "Woody" Beckham, was injured in a rugby match, which left him a quadriplegic. Since then, over $1.5 million has been raised for the cause.

Annual events include the Lionfish Bash, the Woody Golf Classic, Lobster Feast and Woodstock. More info at woodyfoundation.org
