City Attorney cleared of wrong doing

You might remember there was an ethics question regarding City Attorney Victoria Mendez, when District 2 Commissioner Ken Russell questioned her integrity about a zoning issue here in Coconut Grove. Ken felt that she was on the side of developers, Palmcorp Development Group, by withholding information from Ken's office.

But according to Karl Ross, ethics investigator, “It does not appear City Attorney Méndez violated the Miami-Dade County Ethics Code as it relates to Exploitation of Official Position."

So Ms. Mendez is cleared.

Commissioner Russell posted the Herald story on his Facebook page with his thoughts: "
A paid lawyer working to change a city decision is not a lobbyist? It's time for lobbyist reform in the City of Miami."

Perhaps Russell's new Chief of Staff Rebecca Wakefield may be able to help the unexperienced and unqualified commissioner avoid going off halfcocked and making amateurish mistakes!

The worst, among many bad decisions that Selfie Boy has made since becoming Commissioner was this one.

There are numerous, valid and justifiable reasons to fire Victoria Mendez, all having to do with lying and/or refusing to provide public records. Russell could have led that fight, and with preparation could have waged a lucid and I think successful effort that would have succeeded.

Instead, based on the personal dislike by his then Chief of Staff Eleazar Melendez towards both Melendez and Dan Goldberg, one of Mendez's Assistant City Attorney's he walked out on the dais and proceeded, without a lick of real preparation his attack on Mendez over the supposed withholding of the emails to the Palmcorp attorney.

He did this in spite of having been advised by several people who had been tipped off about his intent to go after Mendez over this issue not to do it, because he was ill-prepared and incapable of succeeding based on his half-ass claims.

The end result, besides demonstrating that he was a moron who managed to show his ass, the real damage was that it made it impossible to come back a second time and really go after Mendez, and consequently the public records situation is just as bad, if not worse than it was last year at this time.

So anything that Russel says about this issue is just CaCa,and a waste of oxygen on his part.

Clearly she shouldn't have been cleared even held to the low standards of Miami-Dade County Ethics Commission.

Being outraged or even being in the right doesn't always achieve the desired results. To be successful one needs to know which battles to fight, as well has having the required skills and knowledge of process to have a chance at being victorious. Its a pretty steep learning curve for the uninitiated.

It is disappointing to hear again, success, is all we should seek. What if in fact the Russian's did help Donald Trump win. Is that type of success reasonable to you?
Most of the times being right and good is the best measure despite the outcome.
