Bacardi Sailing Week includes a free park concert

In its seventh year, Bacardi Miami Sailing Week is back in Coconut Grove from Sunday March 5 through March 12. And new and special this year is a free Concert in the Park on Wednesday March 8.

Join in at Regatta Park (2699 SW 27 Avenue) from 7 to 10 pm and enjoy the free concert featuring Havoc 305.

Celebrating its 90th anniversary, the Bacardi Cup has become a world known event valued by many. The Trofeo Bacardi traces its roots to 1920’s Havana, Cuba.

The regatta was conceived as a three-day event with sailors competing for the Trofeo Bacardi as part of the Cup of Cuba’s Mid-Winter Championship. In 1962 the event moved from Havana to Coconut Grove, where it has since been hosted by the Coral Reef Yacht Club, the organizing authority. Heading into 2017, the Bacardi Cup continues to be the only Cuban-born sporting event to survive in the United States. This event now attracts more than 200 sailors each year from some 23 countries and the attention of national and international media.

The 90th running of the Bacardi Cup for the Star class will be the marquee event of Bacardi Miami Sailing Week, with racing from Sunday, March 5 through Saturday, March 11, 2017. Competition for the J/70, Viper 640, VX One, VX Evo, Flying Tiger 7.5, Melges 24 and A-Cat classes takes place Thursday, March 9, through Saturday, March 11. The M32s will be competing on Saturday  March 11 and Sunday March 12 as part of the Miami Winter Series.

The prestigious Coral Reef Yacht Club in Coconut Grove, Miami will continue to support the Cup and Miami Sailing Week with Mark Pincus as the Regatta Chairman. The event will also be sustained by Biscayne Bay Yacht Club, US Sailing Center, Shake a Leg, City of Miami, Coconut Grove business Development and Miami-Dade County.
