Preserving nature and character of Coconut Grove

The Grove Watch Group is holding a community meeting on Preserving the Grove on Wednesday, February 8 from 6 to 7:30 pm at Plymouth Church, 3400 Devon Road.

Many of you attended a similar community meeting held last April at Plymouth Church where they discussed issues of concern, many related to tree canopy, lot-splitting, code enforcement and architectural compliance. As an outgrowth of that meeting, Grove Watch Group was formed by concerned neighbors. They would like to continue the dialogue--and give an update and all that has happened in the last few months. They will offer support to empower neighbors and supply information which will help us all work together to preserve the nature, character and heritage of our community.

If you did not attend the April meeting, here it is.

This group is pretending to be an organization formed in May 2016, the South Grove Neighborhood Association Inc., the Grove watch group was formed in October, by some members who wanted a much wider mission and territory. They have deceptively copied and posted things which were posted on other sites onto their web site. They are trying to take credit for things others have done. Best Wishes to those following a fine tradition...

There's a precedent U.S. case WHITE v. CITY OF SPARKS No. 05-15582, that in my opinion allows artist to sell their works of art on public property, i.e., sidewalks and parks under the 1st amendment and specifically the arts DOES NOT have to seek a permit or permission to do so. If a municipality, i,e. their police department tickets or arrest the artist, that artist will have to be compensated under punitive damage awards, accordingly so as to discourage government from treading on their constitutional rights. In other words COCONUT GROVE COULD trend in this direction, i.e., artist setting up just about everywhere and exercising their constitutional rights! I did it, got my house taken away and got it back in Federal Court, BUT not under this law, but never-the-less it got done. Can you see the writing between the lines here for all artist to set up shop in Coconut Grove. I think this would put the Old Grove back on track for those who are willing. Jobie Steppe
