'Pop Up Plazas' is a downtown experiment

I was at a 2030 Transit meeting not too long ago and I liked  lot of the suggestions and ideas but one idea that was brought up, that I didn't see happening, was adding "greenways" to Coconut Grove. The idea was to turn over a large portion of the streets to bicyclists, runners, walker - anything but cars. I didn't see it happening simply because traffic gets worse daily and taking lanes of traffic away didn't seem to be the answer. But the City of Miami is trying this exact experiment downtown on Biscayne Blvd. for three weeks.

The Downtown Development Authority has turned parts of Biscayne into "pop up plazas" under the Metromover tracks. You can see the story and photos at the Herald here.

In New York City, large sections of Broadway and other areas have been turned into pedestrian areas, there are tables out in the middle of the street. The idea is to reduce traffic, but that's always been a thing in Manhattan, to lessen cars in the city.
