Commissioner Suarez honors historic Grove church

We have been taking a lot about Coconut Grove's history lately. Here is something quite historical. County Commissioner Xavier Suarez honored Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church at City Hall today. Above, Suarez gives a proclamation to Rev. Rudolph Daniels and some of the congregation.

At 121 years old, Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, Inc. based in Coconut Grove, is one of the oldest churches in Miami-Dade County. The church was founded by 56 Black members in 1895 when they left Union Chapel (Plymouth Congregational Church).  The church was given its current name May 22, 1922, formerly known as Fifty-six Baptist Church and St. Agnes.  Reverend Rudolph Daniels has been the Pastor of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Miami, Inc. for 33 years (since 1983).

The church is located at 3515 Douglas Road.
