Car2Go is leaving Miami
The service was here since 2012, but there was not enough business according to the company. It was an expensive proposition running the one-way car sharing business in Miami.
Miami was slow to adopt to the service unlike other cities.
I can't say I am sad to see them go, as in my eyes, they took up all the parking spaces, often times having as many as 15 cars in a one block stretch, which is a lot for Coconut Grove which is parking challenged on streets (we have plenty of lot and garage parking).
There were only about 300 cars in the fleet and it appeared as if most of them were dumped here and in Miami Beach (tourist areas).
A $1 a day service tax was also to blame for the suspension of the service.

You were the first person I thought of when I saw this announcement.
I understand the concern about the amount of parking spots it utilized in the Grove, but for me personally it was a great service. Need to get your car repaired - drop it at the service shop and use Car2Go to work. Have relatives in town with limited use for a car - sign them up for Car2Go.
So sorry to hear it. Renting a car by the minute & not paying for the whole day was AWESOME. I guess I'll have to Uber or Lyft now.
I think you were being very shortsighted on your dislike of the service. Miami, especially the Grove, needs (multiple forms of) public transportation in order to reduce traffic and improve overall quality of life.
The real reason they closed down is simple. UBER. Myself and other friends used Car2Go quite a bit, but that nosedived after Uber became popular.
Good riddance. They were also always parked up in any street spaces just east of Douglas, as the Gables wouldn't permit dropping them inside city property. So they just stockpiled there by coral way & 37th ave.
I am sad. I used it every so often when I was going to downtown (take it to grove metrorail station, then ride rail to give center). Uber really did kill their economics
