New bookstore called 'Pages' is opening this week

For the longest time, they have been trying to get a bookstore at the Engle Building. A year or so ago, when I spoke with Ray Forte of Arquitectonica, whose family owns the building,  he told me that was part of their vision for the building and now they have one.

Opening Tuesday, December 8, is Pages, a new bookstore devoted to art and poetry-style books. I'm happy to say that it is not in competition with the Bookstore in the Grove because the Bookstore in the Grove owns Pages. It is a second store for them, which is a pop-up for a couple of months, they hope to be open through the Coconut Grove Arts Festival weekend, which is mid-February. There had been talk for a year or more of the main Bookstore in the Grove moving to the location and then gossip about Books & Books taking over, so it's nice to see that our own Bookstore has the space.

I stopped by early Saturday morning to have a look and on Saturday morning, it was just one big abandoned space, all cement; so to open by Tuesday, they have a long couple of days ahead of them.

Tuesday's event is a preview party from 6 to 10 pm. There will be champagne, hors d'oeuvres and live Jazz. The next day, they will open for regular daily operation at 10 am.

Please RSVP for the opening to RSVP@thebookstore.com

The location of the new store is 2992 McFarlane Road, a couple of doors east of Harry's Pizzeria.

I miss the days of the Bookworm which was located on Fuller street. It was an old fashioned bookstore. While the Bookstore in the Grove is very nice, it seems more about food and other thingsrefreshmentsand not about books

It's 2015. No bookstores are about books.

I know what the other comments are referring to, but a bookstore is always welcome.
