Historical Bike Ride is part of Wheels
Like a previous King Mango Strut bike ride which had over 100 participants, Glenn Terry's Mango Republic is one of the sponsors of the ride along with Bike Coconut Grove. Costumes and decorated bikes are strongly encouraged. They are giving a prize for the best sounding bike - does your bike play music? The louder, the better.
The ride will honor local bike pioneers, Kirk Munro and Wilson Larkins, who were avid bikers 100 years ago, they just may pop up as part of the bike parade!
The schedule goes like this:
8:30 - 9:10 am - bike decorating workshop
9:10-9:15 am - Fake moustache class
9:15 am - Welcoming speeches and prizes given out to the guy with the longest upper-lip hair and the woman with the handsomest beard. They might get some red sauce, too.
9:25 am - Assemble on Matilda Street to begin the 6-mile, one-hour journey. It will wind through the Grove, South Miami, and end at the University Metrorail station. Expected speed, 10 mph with three stops to chat with historical figures from the past like Ralph Munro, Marjory Stoneman Douglas and Bobby Ingram (who, unlike the others, is very much alive and in the present).
10:30 am - Roll into University Metrorail Station to join the party there.
Please join in by just showing up with your bike.
