Fishing community raises funds for boating safety
Participants started tournament early with a blessing from Father Eric of Mercy Hospital (shown above). Later in the day guests arrived and were greeted by foundation staff members and volunteers at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. The Monica Burguera Foundation tournament had over 25 boats participating and over 100 family and supporters joined for the day festivities to raise funds for a great local cause that works hard to educate our community of water-lovers on how to stay safe while navigating our beautiful waterways.
“Events like our Fishing and Spearfishing for Boating Safety help support and fund the free monthly boating safety classes that are held in partnership with the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 67 and 69. We appreciate all the support from the fishing & spearfishing community, sponsors, participants and Key Biscayne residents. Boating Safety always wins. We will continue the Monica Burguera Foundation’s mission – to make our local waterways safer through education. Boating Safety Education is key,” says Mari Novo, Director of Operations for the Monica Burguera Foundation.

Looks like a great program and public service.. I think everyone boating on the water should do this... I took the coast guard auxiliary class at the sailing club like 10 years ago and it was even my second time i taken a class because the first one I was a kid.. Events like this should promoted and supported. Looks like fun in the sun for the kids regardless.
