City to Scotty's: GET OUT!
Truth be told, I didn't know they were still open.
While there is a lawsuit against the Grove Harbour project, the restaurant should have been allowed to continue functioning. It's a part of Grove history and it shouldn't be torn down so quickly. But again, if we didn't know it was still operating, should it not be torn down? We know the mall on the water is going to happen eventually, lawsuits or not.
Crespo has a copy of the letter from the City to Scotty's here.

FYI the mall is going to be a lot bigger than first planned.so get ready folks.
I new it was coming and am so sad to see the restaurant's demise. I've been going there for years and will truly miss it.
You may not know that they are still in business, but many do. We often have to wait to get seated for a party of three.
So sad. The food was never that great, but the location and breeze were always perfect. I want the old Grove back!!
Read the City's letter. As part of the revocation of the License, the City will be using the premises and fixtures for four months at no cost. My guess is that they have already leased it to an operator for Nov-Feb, prime time with Art Basel and the Grove Art Festival. It will be interesting to see who that will be and the terms of that deal.
Given the politics in City Hall my guesses are that the winner of the deal will be one of the following:
Stephen Kneapler
Armando Lacasa and his wife

I recently moved onto my boat at Dinner Key Marina and I tried Scotty's twice. Both times, I was disappointed by the poor service, the careless attitude of the servers, the sub-par food, and the prices that didn't match the first three. I agree that it is a great location, but that and history is about all that the place has going for it and the staff seems to take that for granted. As I mentioned to the bar tender while we were talking about the possibly future of Scotty's...Scotty's doesn't have much competition and I wonder if it might be time for a change to reinvigorate the place.
Scotty's will be missed, one of a kind place, like Jimbo's was.
It was never about the food.. it was about the unpretentious atmosphere, live music, dogs and kids and everyone welcome, unlike the other exclusive clubs already discussed here.
The place was truly unique in Miami.
Instead we'll get another Big freaking Mall, and the same type of Don Shula plastic joints that are all over the place. Freaking robotic $$$$ociety.
My guess is that it's the Grove Harbor folks who are also behind the Eating House going into in the Peacock Park Glass House. A 4 month pop-up restaurant concept would be right up their alley. Maybe longer... My guess is that Sarnoff and Nelson know all the details. Maybe they will share their guesses as to the future plans for the site.
I have copy of the new lease agreement.... actually the "FIRST AMENDMENT TO GROVE KEY MARINA,LLC REVOCABLE LICENSE AGREEMENT" is between "GROVE KEY MARINA" and the City. This is a done deal.. The same folks who are bringing you the new Mall - Grove Harbor- are taking over. These are the same folks that Sarnoff gave the Glass house to also. ( Which incidentally should have gone to a public vote being on waterfront property- Peacock Park.
Looks like Sarnoff is not certain his wife will be elected so he's making sure his buddies get whatever he promised them. I have no doubts its quid pro quo.
I do not believe the agreement allows them to tear down Scotty's just yet. Hopefully Scotty's will be there for a while..maybe they will clean the place up and I'm sure change the menu and prices until the lawsuits are settled when the whole thing will get knocked down.
If ANYTHING sleazy happens in the Grove, you can be sure the sleaze carries THE MARK OF SARNOFF. Does this guy never sleep?
Scottys..another miami institution tutti finutti. .what a shame. .This city is almost over..
As the person who raised the most hell about the property taxes owed on the property, the case went to court, and then to the 3rd District Court of Appeal, where the judges upheld the original 11th Circuit decision that it was NOT Scotty's that owed the taxes, but the City of Miami. It's one of the few stories that I really got wrong, and one that I feel bad about because I spent far too much time, and obviously contributed to a community belief that Scott Wessel was a tax cheat.
The fact of the matter is that the City of Miami - and the City Attorney's office were the ones responsible - it is after all City Property and consequently, the City that be all of you Groveites, along with all of the other taxpayers in the City are the ones who will pay off the tax bill.
I would guess by now that the taxes have been paid, but you never can tell with those folks. In any event, owning property taxes is not something that should continue to haunt Scott Wessel.
Look, Scotty's has been awful for a decade, and I say this as someone who truly loves places like the Barracuda. It is the worst food & warmest beer you can find in the grove, and the service is always unspeakable bad.
That doesn't take into account how disgusting the kitchen and bar are, or the gray, formerly white, cheap broken lawn chairs or the tables that are so sticky that you may not every pick things up off of them, and generally, something will stain you - table chair spilling waitress, etc.
Oh, and the smell of fresh fumes and wet dogs wafting through the air.
If al crispo can eat crow, that's a sign of integrity and believably. Jobie Steppe
