Is it any wonder why people don't vote?
This reminds me of a story my neighbor Jorge told me once. Jorge was new to this country, from Argentina. He came to the US and was transferred to Des Moines, Iowa. He was a doctor.
While in Des Moines, he was stopped by a cop for speeding. He tried to bribe the Des Moines police officer with his broken English. The cop was taken aback and insulted. He said, "How dare you try to bribe me! You barely speak English, you are new to this country and I don't think you know what you're saying!"
My friend apologized and said that he heard that that's the way it is in the US. He had heard that that's how Florida operates. I can't remember the rest of the story, I guess he just got the ticket and paid it. But it's interesting to know that he learned about Florida politics as an immigrant to this country. He would always get a good laugh telling me that story.
This was maybe in the 1970s. Jorge is gone now, a few years. I don't think he would mind if I shared that story.

And ALL the non-Sarnoff candidates in the District 2 City Commission election are doing their utmost to rid he city of the stink of the bullying, insider dealing, lobbyist-driven Sarnoff years. Give them all some encouragement! They all need to know that while many "citizens" are clueless, and the developers are "bought"....some people appreciate their efforts.
Your friend, Jorge, most likely learned about bribes from his native country, Argentina. Florida, and Miami in particular, are more corrupt because a great number of people here come from Latin America, where corruption is systemic and a regular part of life.
I'm not surprised....Miami is unlike any place in this country...It's basically it's own country...no one plays by the rules here...Miami is the only city in America where you do not have to speak English...
Miami, Miami Beach & everything in between & to the North & the South have always been crooked. Waaaaay before the Latinos arrival
None of the "non-Sarnoff" candidates are at all impressive, least of all Russell who ironically enough admitted is one of those who, like the title of this post, "don't vote."
I get the idea that the vast majority of the candidates are running vanity campaigns, and haven't got a clue about the district outside of the Grove.
@8:40 You don't have to speak English in any American city.
Grace Solares is the only candidate (only) who is qualified.
