Goombay Festival is back as Junkanoo Festival

The Goombay Festival is back this year as the Miami Bahamas Junkanoo Festival. There will be a week of activities geared to young people involving education, leadership, sports and business opportunities.

The main event is Saturday, July 25 in Village West where residents will enjoy the Junkanoo parade and festivities that everyone remembers from the Goombay Festival days. Booths will line the streets from Douglas Road west to US 1, there will be lots of Bahamian and southern food. The event is from 10 am to 6 pm.

This is a big change from previous years when the festival started near the post office and went down to Douglas Road. One year, in 2005, it took place on South Bayshore Drive while construction took place on Douglas.

Historic tours and stories are part of the event. Baptist Health of South Florida will hold a Wellnesss Fair on site.

The events throughout the week and the street festival are all free. More info here: miamibahamasjunkanoofest.com/
