Saturday Night Fever being shown at Gables Cinema
Brooklyn teenager Tony Manero (John Travolta) lives for Saturday nights at the local disco, where he's king of the club, thanks to his stylish moves on the dance floor. But outside the club, Tony's life is not so spectacular. Tony fights constantly with his father and has to compete with his family's starry-eyed view of his older brother, a priest. However, things begin to change when he spies Stephanie Mangano (Karen Lynn Gorney) in the disco and starts training with her for the club's dance competition. Stephanie dreams of the world beyond Brooklyn, and her plans to move to Manhattan change Tony's life forever.
Of course the music by the Bee Gees is the best part and of course Travolta's dancing combined with the music are all that. I remember seeing it when it first came out, at the Omni downtown. Remember the movie theater there and the carousel they had at the mall section?
Cost is $5 and includes free popcorn. Coral Gables Art Cinema is located at 260 Aragon, directly across from Books & Books. Call 786-385-9689 for info.
