Raising money for the campaigns

More than one person has emailed me an article from the Daily Business Review that talks about the money coming in for the District 2 Commission campaign. It's linked here, but you may have a problem reading it without signing up through the pay wall.

It basically says that Teresa Sarnoff reported last week that her campaign raised $333,814,  "including $159,935 from real estate developers, brokers, investors, their relatives and companies under their control, an analysis by the Daily Business Review has found. Another $49,100 came from executives in the construction trades, their relatives and companies under their control." I am sure they all feel obligated to donate to Teresa.

This is no surprise. I think that is where most of the money would be coming from, not for only Teresa, but for most candidates.

I had to laugh at the sentence, "The Sarnoffs have not declared their intentions to use those funds for Teresa's campaign and could theoretically dedicate that money to other candidates."

It's sad that campaigns are all about money but in this case I think it's all about voting. Only a small percentage of people actually vote and therein lies the failure of electing the right candidate. Candidate Grace Solares seems to have the next highest amount of money, over $77,000.

Last time, Marc Sarnoff won, due to getting a lot of absentee ballots, and I think that is the trick this time for anyone who is going to win. Either that or physically drive thousands of people to the polls.

The Daily Business Review does a good job pointing out that many donors to Marc Sarnoff's wife's campaign really want his vote on pending legislation. Pay to play?
