Lecture on the Wreck of the Half Moon shipwreck

Miami-Dade Reef Guard Association is recognizing 1-800 Yacht Charters / 1-800 Bareboat & The Guy Harvey Ocean Foundation for their generous donations to the Adopt-A-Buoy program.

There will be a happy hour with cocktails and appetizers followed by a lecture from Reef Guard President, Professor Michael J. Beach, on the wreck of the Half Moon, formerly known as the Germania. This ship has a very interesting and storied past. The site is made more unique by the fact that 1-800 Yacht Charters has a replica of the vessel within its fleet. Hence the title of the talk "History Comes To Life!"  You will be able to see historical photos of the ship, underwater shots of it's current condition and then see it "resurrected" and plying the waters of the Southern Caribbean again!

"The 154-foot long, two-masted racing sailboat was built in 1908 by Krupp-GermaniaWerft at Kiel, Germany. Originally christened Germania, the 366-ton chrome-nickel steel yacht carried 15,000 square feet of canvas and was rigged as a schooner."

Wicked Dolphin Rum and Mako Vodka will be providing libation.

Salt Waterfront Restaurant will be cooking up some great appetizers.

Suggested donation is $10 and, with it, you are entitled to free food and drinks and entered into a raffle for great door prizes.

The event is Thursday, April 9 from 7 to 9 pm at the University of Miami RSMAS Campus Auditorium at 4600 Ricenbacker Causeway on Virginia Key. The auditorium was graciously donated by UM, it holds 300 people.
