Protecting the waterfront
UEL is an advocacy organization that supports environmentally responsible development and smart growth, particularly protecting the waterfront.
The forum is Wednesday, February 4 from 7 to 9 pm at Miami Center for Architecture and Design at 100 NE 1st Avenue.
Panelists include Michael Grieco, Miami Beach Commissioner; Brian May, Flagstone Island Gardens representative; Stephen E. Herbits, president of Coalition Against Causeway Chaos and Maurice Ferre, former Mayor of Miami.
Flagstone Island Gardens is the huge Watson Island plan from Turkish developer Mehmet Bayraktar.
Moderator is Paul Schwiep, chairman of the Miami Dade County Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust, Member UEL Board.
UEL is not a fan of the Flagstone project. More on that here.

and maybe they should add Coconut Grove, before it becomes too late."
It is too late. The Grove's so-called "waterfront" in long gone. Ride a bike or drive the 5 miles there used to be of bayside waterfront. Good luck in seeing any water anywhere.
I'm glad you can't drive your car where I walk everyday. You can still ride a bike, though. Lot's of people do. Enjoy your car and its view.
UEL is notoriously anti ”old” Coconut Grove. They have never taken a stand against FPL transmission lines or even the Grove Habour referendum. Shame. They even ignore us and our traffic issues.
What U talking about, there are so many parks with direct bay views from Coconut Grove, not to mention high rise condos, or from a simple drive to Key Biscayne, or if you own a boat, rent a chopper or ride a bike or take a walk. Jobie Steppe
The UEL supports numerous issues. The FPL transmission lines are an important issue. It is difficult for one volunteer organization to responsibly contribute time and energy to every battle. So many battles and so little time.
Let's block the last few feet of water left for most passers-by to see in the Grove: expand the Mall to Seminole boat ramp, sell hot dogs there.
At least the Grove Bay project taking over Scotty's will have a wider Boardwalk for pedestrians and cyclists. That good move forward.
Unless they try to stop you at the marina. That won't be a good move.
Yeah, right. Look at what they did with downtown "Bayside".
Get a grip. The Grove Bay project is nothing like Bayside. All this talk about a mall going up there is just stupid.
Will they sell delectable $15 burguers by the Bay?
@10:35, I bet they will, and they'll be a lot better than the crappy $12 burger at Scotty's. and probably have less rat feces on them. Oh, and ya know, you might get good service, and a comfortable chair, and not get high on exhaust fumes the whole time.
We want $30 burgers with no rat feces and no fumes. Thanks.
